Core Hubs vs Fusion Hubs

The differences between Core and Fusion Hubs, and how each works within a Tenancy.

DekkoCORE arranges content and people into “Hubs”. A Hub is a contained workspace; files cannot be shared across Hubs, and you can’t see a Hub unless you are added to it.

There are two types of Hubs - Core Hubs and Fusion Hubs.

Hubs always belong to a “Tenancy”. Tenancy policies apply to the Hubs within it, with some distinctions depending on if the Hub is a Core Hub or a Fusion Hub.

A Tenancy can consist of Core Hubs only, Fusion Hubs only, or both. There are no limits to the number of Hubs in a Tenancy.

An organisation can use multiple Tenancies on DekkoCORE. This may be the case where different areas of an organisation should have different administrative users, policies, or integrations.

Hubs can be created by users permitted by the Limit users who can create Hubs Tenancy policy, and Tenancy Managers and Fusion Managers can also create Fusion Hubs from the Tenancy Manager. The creator of a Core Hub is automatically set as its Hub Admin, and Tenancy Managers and Hub Admins can invite users to a Core Hub and make them an admin. The creator of a Fusion Hub is not made its admin. A Fusion Hub's admins (Fusion Hub Admins) are nominated by Tenancy Managers and Fusion Managers.

Hubs have their own settings, separate from the configurations applied by Tenancy policies. Core Hubs have settings such as External user restrictions, branding and feature availability. Fusion Hubs have settings for branding, Fusion Hub Admins, Hub-level groups and default sharing.

In a Core Hub, non-admin users are either Team Members or External Members, and Externals cannot see or share with each other. Fusion Hubs don't have member types. Access comes from the groups a person belongs to.

Fusion Hubs can only be enabled by DekkoSecure staff. Please contact your DekkoSecure account manager to discuss the use of Fusion Hubs.

Core Hubs

Core Hubs have members (Hub Admin, Team Member and External Member) and their own settings for controlling branding and feature availability.

Fusion Hubs

Structured record management and sharing - implicit sharing with groups

Features:

  • File sharing
  • Document collaboration
  • Content attribution
  • Search by attribute

Fusion Hubs have groups and individuals for sharing. Tenancy-level groups are managed in the Tenancy Manager, and each Hub can also have its own Hub-level groups. Fusion Hubs are administered by Tenancy Managers, Fusion Managers and Fusion Hub Admins. See Fusion Hub roles.

Selecting Hubs

Core and Fusion Hubs are displayed and selected in separate navigation dropdowns.

Core Hubs

Core Hubs dropdown open showing Project Blue Book selected, with All, Robertson Panel, Roswell Incident, S4 Facility and UAP Task Force listed, plus New hub and Manage hubs buttons.

If you are a member of Core Hubs only, you will not see the Fusion Hub dropdown.

If you are a member of Fusion Hubs only, you will not see the Core Hub dropdown.

Core Hubs

Core Hubs have a standard “file explorer” style interface with folders listed first, and files underneath.

Sharing is explicit - users can only see what they upload or what has been shared with them. Each file and folder is shared with a permission per-user. Sharing permissions are independent of Hub roles, for example, a user can be a Hub Admin, and a file is shared with them as view only.

The navigation panel on the left side of the user interface lets you switch between file management, the approvals filter, mail inbox and chats, and view Hub settings and the Hub contact list.

Users are added to a Hub by anyone in the Hub with the Hub Admin role or a Team Member with invite permission. Team Members without invite permission and External Members cannot send invites.

Fusion Hubs

Fusion Hubs have a more detailed “record management” style interface. Folders are listed first and files are underneath, and both are complemented with metadata columns that are configured per-Tenancy.

Documents from every Fusion Hub in the Tenancy that is included in the Index can be seen in a flat list called the “Index”, regardless of their location in a folder. Only members of groups with Index access can open the Index, and it lists documents whether or not they are shared with the person viewing it. Tenancy Managers and Fusion Managers decide which Hubs are included and which groups have Index access. The Index has two views: files with all metadata fields filled (the default view) and all files, regardless of whether all metadata fields are filled. Both views can be exported as a CSV file.

Sharing is implicit. Groups and individuals (a group of one) are added as default sharing parties to the Hub, and everything uploaded to the Hub is instantly shared with those parties. Additional parties can be added to individual files and folders.

Tenancy-level groups are created and managed in the Tenancy Manager by Tenancy Managers and Fusion Managers, and can be used in any Fusion Hub. Hub-level groups are managed in a Hub's settings and can only be used in that Hub. Adding a user to a group grants access to all content that is accessible to that group. Removing a user from a group instantly revokes their access to content, unless they are part of another group that is active in the Hub.
