This article explains how to download files from the DekkoCORE platform, including single files, multiple files, and folders. It also covers common download issues and how to resolve them.
When using DekkoCORE you can preview the content without downloading it to your local device. If you donβt need to download the content please see the Content Views and Content Display article.
Please note, you can only download files that have been shared with you with Download, Download + Upload, Manager, or Full permissions. Files shared with View only or Editor permission cannot be downloaded. See the Sharing Files article for a full breakdown of permission levels.
How to download files and folders
DekkoCORE allows you to download a single file, multiple files, and folders. Please follow the step below to do so.
- Tick the file(s) and/or folder(s) you want to download.
- Press the Download button in the action bar.
- The file will be decrypted in your browser and then saved to your default downloads folder.
Troubleshooting
I cannot press the download button
When selecting the file(s) and/or folder(s) and you canβt select the Download button, the file has been shared with you with either View only or Editor permissions. View only restricts you to viewing the file in-app and Editor restricts you to view supported files, upload, update and edit files. Both of these permissions prevent you from downloading the content. If you need to download a file please contact the file owner directly to request a higher permission level.
Download appears stuck or paused
Chrome and Edge put background tabs to sleep after a period of inactivity. If you start a download and then switch to another browser tab, your download may be paused.
To prevent this, adjust your browser's performance settings before starting large downloads. See the Whitelisting and Browser Settings article for step-by-step instructions.
Keep the DekkoCORE tab in the foreground while downloads are in progress, or configure your browser to exempt DekkoCORE from performance management.
Download is slow
DekkoSecure encrypts each file individually. Download speed depends on your internet connection, the file size, and the number of files/folders being downloaded. If downloads are consistently slow, check the following:
- Confirm that your internet connection is stable and that other websites load at normal speed.
- If you are using a corporate VPN, test whether download speed improves when connected directly. VPN overhead can reduce transfer rates.
- For large or bulk downloads, use the DekkoDrive Synchronisation App instead of the browser.
Downloaded file opens in the browser instead of saving
Some browsers are configured to open certain file types (such as PDFs) directly instead of saving them. To save the file to disk instead:
- Chrome: Go to Settings -> Downloads and enable "Ask where to save each file before downloading."
- Edge: Go to Settings -> Downloads and enable "Ask me what to do with each download."
I downloaded a ZIP file but expected individual files
When you download multiple files or an entire folder, DekkoCORE packages them into a single ZIP file. To access the individual files, extract (unzip) the downloaded archive.
